Desperately would like to see the full video I’ve never seen the show. Just the play.

So many loved it, it seems. I found it overly earnest and misdirected. The time displays on the side of the stage were so anachronistic and annoying. It had too big a budget and had unnecessary special effects. The only moment I was truly impressed with (because it was so theatrical) was the end with the survivors as the ghosts as they replayed the opening scene. “Dit-dot-dot-dit!” Oh please.

Awe, c'mon... if you're gonna post (fabulous) stuff like this... TELL US DETAILS. Is this a touring production, a fancy concert version? 5 W's gee

Okay, WAIT. You're saying this was a 1999 concert "for Sheldon Harnick's 100th birthday." But he died in 2023...at age 99. In 1999, dear Sheldon turned 75. So...what's going on?

Very choppy and sloppy. she's certainly no Angela, who in the original was perfection. Saw her in the Boston tryout prior to NY way back when.

I was wondering why she was taking constant breaths. She also didn't sustain notes. Otherwise agreed,,,,wonderful musical performer

I think Dear World needs a revival, a modern take. The music is great, the problem is modern.

2023 was a great year for musicals (Parade, some like it hot, Kimberly akimbo, Camelot) but this was my favorite of the whole season. A magical night at the theater!

She's like a combination of Mary Poppins and Fosca;

She's a superb and versatile actor and shows should be written for her.

This performance is all the more remarkable because Donna had COVID and missed the first half of rehearsals (note the sides she's clutching; it became an extension of her characterization) I'm sorry we never got to see her play Mame.

This is magnificent! She is perfection in this role! And what a score - one of his absolute best!

I needed to experience these moments today. Thank you so much for sharing them. I am grateful beyond words. ❤❤❤

Thank you so very much. Agree with everyone, Donna is "one of a kind". This was one of the first shows I saw on my first trip to NYC at the age of 18. Sorry I missed this.

I saw the original Dear World when I was 16. It remains one of my favorite scores. While there have been several attempts to revive the show, all were lacking until this production. Donna Murphy was wonderful, as was the rest of the cast. Angela Lansbury and Jerry Herman would approve.

Yayy! Donna Murphy is the BEST. Was so sad she couldn’t be at the FOLLIES concert a few weeks ago at Carnegie Hall. Anyway, This ENCORES! production moved me deeply and “Dear World” became a favorite musical of mine. ❤️ Thank you as always, Aurora, for posting these gems - immortalizing fleeting moments of theater magic for all of us!

Donna Murphy is perfect in this role...perfect. There is nothing she cannot do, but this performance needs to be seen on Broadway, please.

Donna is Magnificent. I saw Angela do it in the 1960's. Donna's interpretation is Better.

The astonishing Donna Murphy. A shame we’ll never see her Rose or Mrs. Lovett. She stands in the tradition of the character leading ladies of yesteryear. Such talent.

This production deserved to transfer, and Donna Murphy is just immaculately brilliant for this role!

The part was written for someone like Donna, she's living this character for the show, Dear World has one of the best Herman score but like Mack and Mabel but both suffer from thin books, Dear World was based on a play The Madwoman of Chaillot, that is way too well thought out to never work other than a comical satire even the movie version of the play which opened when Dear World premiered was panned with one review even remarking about Dear World's failure.

The first time I saw this play was a high school play and they did freaking AMAZING but Apperantly they weren’t allowed to record it which is ABSURD. But anyways this scene was AMAZING. They had a spinning floor in the middle and at one point whoever’s turn it was singing was in the front, and then they had all the background characters playing as chess pieces on the tiled floor and just oh my gosh nothing can compare. I wish I could watch it again😭
